The academy can seem so closed and unwelcoming to those who are not privy to its ways. Those around you seem to be using an unwritten rule book that no one has shared with you.
It's easy to feel like an imposter or that you don't belong in these types of situations. However, remember that research is always better when there is varying backgrounds and experience. There is a place in research and academia for everyone.
Even if you don't believe us now, hold on! We are gradually dismantling the ivory tower piece by piece and won't stop until everyone knows that they have a place in academia.
