Processing Grief

Updated: Feb 26, 2021

Hi everyone! I’m Janay and I’ll be talking over the @PhD_Balance IG tomorrow!

I’m a part of the Stronger Together initiative under PhD Balance and have been a part of the team for about 5 months.

I’m from a small town in southeastern North Carolina called Red Springs. I attended the illustrious North Carolina A&T State University, where I received my B.S. in Biology. Then after, I started a research post-bac at UNC-Chapel Hill. I loved it so much I decided to stay there to pursue my doctorate degree. Currently, I’m starting my third year under the neuroscience curriculum.

Grad school has been one of the best experiences so far and I’ve had some highs and lows!

Grad school has been one of the best experiences so far and I’ve had some highs and lows. One of the deepest lows I’ve had occurred in the past year, where I experienced the death of two loved ones. Therefore, the topic I’ll be discussing surrounds grief and dealing with it during grad school. I’m a pretty open book, so send any questions you might have to our DMs and I’ll address them tomorrow.

Ask me questions on any of these topics: grief, therapy, mental health, professional communication, being a Black woman in STEM, Neuroscience, science outreach.

Also, don’t forget to check out Grad Chat, which is streamed live on Youtube Saturday where I’ll be discussing even more on Saturday [Youtube live link] here!

Make sure to tune into Janay's Grad Chat with us on Saturday, July 18th - 3pm EDT on YouTube live. Missed the live? No worries! The videos will stay up so you can always go back and watch!
