Self-Advocacy as a Woman in Physics

Meet this week's Grad Chat guest, Lipi Gupta, PhD (she/her)!

Promotional Graphic - Alt: Self-Advocacy as a Woman in Physics. # Grad Chat by PhD Balance. There are 2 headshots one of Niba, the host & one of Lipi Gupta, PhD, the guest.

Hi all - my name is Lipi! I am a physicist by training, but headed into a software engineering-focused postdoctoral fellowship, now that I've successfully defended my PhD! Throughout my education, there were many times when I had to evaluate the direction my life was headed, and make decisions about if I was happy and fulfilled, or if something needed to change.

I hope to bring my experience to you in a way that could help you, if you find yourself in a similar position. Advocacy of any kind can be challenging and scary, but self-advocacy can be even more difficult. Talking about the experiences where being honest and strong worked, failed, backfired, succeeded, and anything else in between, is the best way forward for all academics!
