Welcome back to our "Who keeps PhD Balance running?" series! We're going to be introducing our team over the next few weeks, so keep an eye out! 👀
Next up is Dr Brittany Uhlorn, the Speaking Director.
Dr Brittany Uhlorn is a science communicator, yoga instructor, and mental health advocate who is passionate about empowering others with knowledge that will support their minds, bodies and souls. She graduated with a doctorate in cancer biology and a graduate certificate in science communication from the University of Arizona in 2020.
Brittany also teaches yoga for the university's Campus Recreation, as well as for an essential oils company based in Indiana. Since joining PhD Balance in March 2020 and initiating the Stronger Together series, she has transitioned to a role as the Speaking Team lead. In her spare time, she enjoys hiking with her husband, snuggling her kitty, and obsessing over her baby!
What does she do for PhD Balance?
Brittany is our Speaking Director & Leads our Speaking Team. She liaises with universities and groups who bring PhD Balance into speak and ensures that all the legal obligations are in place! She also ensures all our speakers are trained and that our speakers know what they are going into!
Why did she join PhD Balance?
While battling anxiety and an eating disorder in graduate school, Brittany felt so alone. Once she was able to recover, her eyes were opened to how normalized and brushed off mental health struggles have become in grad school. Since then, she's been empowered to use her experience and provide content to help other students support their mental health and possibly find the resources they need to recover from whatever it is they are struggling with.
